Anonyma - End User Licence Agreement
Version of 2026-10-12
Copyright (c) 2026 Technologies Anonyma inc. All rights reserved.
Please read this agreement before installing. By installing or using Anonyma, you accept it.
1. What Anonyma is
Anonyma is desktop software that helps you find and hide personal information in documents, so a file can be shared or studied without revealing who it belongs to.
2. Your documents stay on your computer
All document processing happens on your computer, with AI models installed with the software. Anonyma never sends your documents, the information it finds in them, their file names or any fingerprint of them to us or to anyone else.
3. Internet connections
Anonyma connects to the internet only for the purposes below. None of these connections carries information from your documents: no document, content, file name or value found.
- Licence: when you activate it, then at start-up and every few hours while it is open (at least every 7 days), Anonyma sends your licence key, an anonymous identifier of this computer and the app version. When you remove the licence from this computer, it sends the licence key and this identifier, so the key can be used on another computer.
- Free trial and key recovery: when you ask for them, Anonyma sends the e-mail address you enter. For the trial, it also sends the computer identifier, the app version and the interface language; to recover a key on this computer, the 6-digit code received by e-mail and the computer identifier.
- Purchase: after you buy from the app, it collects your licence key from the publisher's server with a random one-time code that says nothing about you.
- Updates: at start-up it downloads a small signed notice saying whether a new version exists. An update is downloaded and installed only when you choose to install it.
Buying or managing a subscription opens the publisher's website in your browser. Details are in the Privacy Policy, which you can open from the agreement screen before accepting; it is also copied to the installation folder (PRIVACY-EN.txt).
4. No guarantee of anonymity or compliance
Automatic detection can miss information, especially on scanned pages and unusual layouts. Anonyma helps reduce exposure. It does NOT guarantee that a document is anonymous or de-identified, or that its use complies with any law or regulation (including Québec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, or PIPEDA). You must review every page before sharing a document.
5. Your responsibility
You are responsible for the documents you process, for checking each exported copy, and for your own legal and professional obligations. Anonyma is responsible only for what the software does on your computer, not for what you or others do with files elsewhere.
6. Licence
Subject to paying for your subscription (monthly, or for the period stated in a quote), for the period of a free trial licence, or under the free plan, you receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use Anonyma on the number of computers your licence allows. When the publisher offers it, the free plan allows a limited number of documents per rolling 7-day period, PDF files only (scans included); the number is shown in the app's licence window. The publisher may change or end the free plan at any time, and it carries no support commitment. When a subscription is not renewed, Anonyma keeps working for a 7-day grace period and then stops opening and analysing new documents. Documents that are already open can still be exported. You can cancel a subscription from Licence > Manage my subscription in the app, or at anonyma.app/manage. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the licence stays active until the end of the period already paid. Payments are not refunded, including when a subscription is cancelled, except where the law requires it; the free trial is there to try Anonyma before paying. If the publisher refunds a payment, the licence ends.
7. What you may not do
You may not copy, resell, rent, sublicense or share the software or your licence key; bypass, disable or alter the licence check; reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the software, except to the extent the law expressly allows it or section 12 permits it; or remove copyright or other notices.
8. Updates
Updates are signed by the publisher and verified by Anonyma before they are installed. Some updates may be needed to keep the software working or secure.
9. Ownership
Anonyma, including its code, detection rules, interface and documentation, is owned by its publisher and protected by copyright and other laws. This agreement gives you a licence to use it, not ownership.
10. No warranty
The software is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the publisher's total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the licence in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in this agreement limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
12. Third-party components
(a) Anonyma includes third-party components (open-source software, AI models and data) that are licensed to you under their own licences. They are listed, with their licences and notices, in the file THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt in the installation folder (About > Open-source notices); that file can also be opened from the agreement screen before accepting. (b) Each of those components is governed by its own licence. If that licence gives you rights that this agreement would otherwise restrict, or requires terms different from this agreement, that licence prevails for that component. Nothing in this agreement limits your rights under it. (c) In particular, for components licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (version 2.1 or 3) or the Lesser General Public License for Linguistic Resources, you may modify those components, and modify the software to the extent needed to use your modified versions of them, for your own use. You may also reverse engineer the software to debug such modifications. Section 7 does not apply to the extent needed for these purposes. (d) Where a component's licence requires that its source code be made available, THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt says how to obtain it. (e) Components supplied by Microsoft Corporation are provided under their own terms, which do not allow them to be modified or reverse engineered.
12A. Responsibility and Professional Judgement Agreement The Responsibility and Professional Judgement Agreement printed at the end of this document is part of this agreement. By installing or using Anonyma you accept it. In case of conflict on the matters it covers, it prevails.
13. Governing law and language
This agreement is governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The French version is presented to you first. You are bound by the English version only if you expressly choose it (see section 12.2 of the annex).
14. Entire agreement
This agreement, with its annex, is the entire agreement between you and the publisher about Anonyma, except a separate written contract signed with the publisher, which prevails. The Privacy Policy describes how the publisher handles information; it adds no obligation on you. Website: https://anonyma.app
============================================================================== ANNEX - RESPONSIBILITY AND PROFESSIONAL JUDGEMENT AGREEMENT ==============================================================================
In short (plain language)
- Anonyma is a tool that assists you. It suggests what to hide; you decide and you
check.
- The software can make mistakes: miss a detail or hide one too many.
- You must check every page of every copy before you share it.
- Your documents are never sent to us. You remain solely responsible for the personal
information they hold.
- Our liability is limited, except where the law forbids it.
1. The parties and purpose
1.1 This agreement binds Technologies Anonyma inc. ("the publisher", "we") and the person or business that installs or uses Anonyma ("you"). It supplements the end-user licence agreement; where they conflict on the matters it covers, this agreement prevails.
1.2 Anonyma is intended for professional use: firms, businesses, organizations and professionals handling documents in the course of their activities.
2. What Anonyma is
2.1 Anonyma is software that assists you in finding and hiding information in documents. It suggests; it does not decide for you.
2.2 All processing happens on your computer. The publisher never receives, sees or keeps your documents, the information in them, their file names or any fingerprint of them. Internet connections serve only the licence (activation and re-checks, the free trial, key recovery and collecting a key after a purchase) and updates, with no content from your documents (see section 3 of the licence agreement and the Privacy Policy).
3. Our commitment: an obligation of means
3.1 The publisher undertakes to provide software designed, developed and tested with reasonable diligence that performs the functions described in its documentation. This is an obligation of means.
3.2 The publisher does not undertake a result: it does not guarantee that every item of personal information will be found, that a document will be anonymous or de-identified, or that its use will comply with any law, regulation or professional rule.
4. Known limits of automatic detection
4.1 Automatic detection can miss information and can hide information that did not need hiding. The risk is higher for scanned, faxed, faint, tilted or handwritten pages, unusual layouts, languages other than French and English, and information that identifies a person indirectly (a place, a precise date, a rare occupation, a combination of details).
4.2 The software tells you about these limits (first-use notice, warnings on hard-to-read pages, tracking of reviewed pages). These notices warn you of the risk; they do not replace your review.
5. Your obligations
By using Anonyma, you agree to:
5.1 check every page of every document and every exported copy before sharing, publishing or sending it, and correct what needs correcting;
5.2 use your professional judgement: decide yourself what must be hidden, given the document, its recipient and your obligations;
5.3 process only documents you have the right to process;
5.4 comply with your legal and professional obligations, including professional secrecy and the protection of personal information;
5.5 make sure the people who use Anonyma on your behalf know and follow this agreement;
5.6 not present a copy made with Anonyma as guaranteed "anonymous" or "compliant" without checking it yourself.
6. Personal information remains your responsibility
6.1 Under the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (CQLR, c. P-39.1, s. 3.1), every person carrying on an enterprise is responsible for protecting the personal information it holds.
6.2 Because Anonyma runs entirely on your computer and the publisher receives no document or information, you remain the sole holder of that information and solely responsible for protecting it, communicating it and any copy you share. The publisher does not receive, keep or process any of that information on your behalf.
6.3 What you do with a copy after export (sending it, uploading it to another platform, using it in another tool, including an artificial intelligence tool) is up to you and governed by those services' terms.
7. Limitation of liability
7.1 To the full extent permitted by law, the publisher is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, including loss of profits, clients or data, harm to reputation and penalties imposed by a regulator, arising from the use of Anonyma or of a copy made with it.
7.2 To the full extent permitted by law, the publisher's total liability for all claims relating to Anonyma is limited to the amount you paid for the licence in the 12 months before the claim.
7.3 What the law does not allow to be limited. In accordance with article 1474 of the Civil Code of Québec, nothing in this agreement excludes or limits the publisher's liability for material injury caused by its intentional or gross fault, or for bodily or moral injury. Nothing limits the rights the law grants you that cannot be waived.
8. Third-party claims
8.1 You agree to indemnify the publisher for damages and reasonable costs (including legal fees) it incurs because of a claim by a third party, including a person whose information appears in a document, to the extent the claim arises from: a) your failure to check a copy before sharing it; b) a breach of this agreement or of the law; c) a document you had no right to process; or d) your use of a third-party platform or service.
8.2 This obligation does not apply to the extent the harm results from the publisher's intentional or gross fault, or from the publisher's breach of its commitments in this agreement (for example sending information taken from your documents).
8.3 The publisher will notify you of such a claim promptly, cooperate reasonably in the defence and not settle it at your expense without your consent.
9. Acceptance
9.1 You accept this agreement when installing Anonyma and again by ticking "I understand: I review every document and remain responsible for it" before the first automatic detection.
9.2 Anonyma keeps on your computer the date and time of that acceptance and the version of the notice accepted. A significant new version of the notice is shown to you and must be accepted again.
9.3 Silent installation by an organization. When an organization installs Anonyma without any display (for example with /VERYSILENT, Intune or SCCM), the licence agreement is not shown to employees at installation. The organization then accepts the licence agreement and this agreement for itself and its users, and undertakes to make them available to its users and to have them follow this agreement. Each user also accepts the responsibility notice in the software before the first automatic detection.
10. Consumers
Anonyma is not intended for consumers. If the Consumer Protection Act nonetheless applies to your situation, the rights it grants you prevail over any contrary provision of this agreement.
11. Severability
If a court finds a provision invalid or unenforceable, it is reduced to what the law allows and the other provisions remain in force.
12. Governing law and language
12.1 This agreement is governed by the laws of Québec and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The courts of Québec have jurisdiction.
12.2 The French version is provided to you first. If you expressly choose to be bound by the English version, both versions have equal value; in case of discrepancy, the French version prevails. When you install Anonyma in English, a separate box asks you to confirm that choice expressly after the French version has been shown to you.
